The Last Goodbye – The Beginning
by Bernadette Marie

Everyone deserves one last goodbye.

Day 3 VCB CoverAs far back as Grace Carter could remember, she’d been able to communicate with the deceased. Of course, working in her family’s mortuary put her in constant contact with those who had crossed over, if she didn’t take steps to block them out, which she preferred to do. However, some spirits are stronger than others…

Nora Campbell had nearly been ready to die, but she still had some unfinished business. From the other side, she found the woman she wanted her grandson to fall in love with, and she put her matchmaking plan in motion. Nora was insistent that Grace get a message to her grandson, TV reporter Matthew Campbell, and together they could pass on the last goodbyes of those who had passed.

Only now Grace must convince Matthew she is in touch with his grandmother and not some crazy woman who spends all her time with the deceased.

Day 7

ACB Banner

Love is Death by L.P. Masters

Day 7 ACB Cover

Gina’s plan for her afterlife is simple: survive as long as possible. The afterlife is a ghost-kill-ghost kind of place. When she meets newly-dead Alec, she can’t help her desire to protect him. Before she knows it, she finds herself falling for him, despite the little voice in her head telling her it’s a bad idea.

Alec’s goals don’t mesh well with Gina’s plans. Determined to save his living sister from a murderer, he’s willing to disobey the laws of a well-established cult in the afterlife. If the cult finds out, they’ll kill him. Again. He’s hesitant to accept Gina’s help and threaten her afterlife, but he’s guaranteed to fail without her. Together they embark on a perilous mission, but the most dangerous aspect of all is the threat of falling in love. Because in the afterlife… love is death.

Day 7 ACB AuthorBorn and raised in the rainy streets of the Seattle Area, L.P. Masters spent her fair share of time staring out rain-streaked windows and writing books. Masters has always had extremely vivid dreams, which often spark inspiration for her novels. In 1999, after one such dream, Masters began her first writing project. She has participated in National Novel Writer’s Month every November since 2010. Writing isn’t the only thing she can do with a pen in her hand, she also enjoys sketching and drawing—with varying degrees of success. Masters now lives in the slightly-less-dreary city of Spokane Washington with her husband, four wonderful daughters, and two crazy dogs.

Top Ten List:

1. As a kid, I used to write 20 books at a time. I could keep them all straight. I would sit down at the computer and open five or six books that I wanted to work on. I’d write one for a few minutes, get an idea for another one and go work on that one. I was always bouncing around between stories and ideas.

2. Thanks to fun fact #1, by the time I was sixteen years old, I had started 134 books and had finished 12 of them.

3. I used to read books the same way, usually only 2 or 3 at a time.

4. I never finished Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, even though it was interesting and I wanted to read it. I got distracted, set it down, and never picked it up again. I always tell myself that some day I’ll finish it. I do have to know what question 42 answers!

5. A lot of my stories are inspired by my dreams. My dreams are very vivid, and often have large chunks of the beginning, middle, and/or end of a story incorporated into them. Sometimes I’ll dream the beginning of a book, and days or weeks later dream the middle or end of the same book.

6. I unfortunately often experience hypnopompic dreaming, which is a condition in which a person wakes up but continues to dream, so I often will wake up and see things in my room in the middle of the night. They’re usually scary things. No. They’re usually terrifying.

7. Thanks to fun fact #6, I could write horror stories if I wanted to. I would never run out of ideas. So Many Horror Stories! I’ve decided not to embrace those types of dreams that way, but I have written one or two short stories inspired by my dreams.

8. Someone can say a single word and inspire a novel, or a simple sentence and inspire an entire scene. My mind hooks onto things and runs with them.

9. When I first got started reading novels, I often lay in bed thinking about what the author might do next in the story. A lot of times I’d only be halfway through the book and I would already have come up with two or three possible endings in my head. The stories rarely turned out the way I imagined they would, but it was always fun to think of all the different options.

10. Maybe #9 is the reason why I am obsessed with some day creating a series of choose your own adventure sci-fi novels. I’ve already got a ton of them plotted out. I just haven’t sat down and finished them.

Moon Sworn by J.F. Holland

Moonsworn(The Bound Series #1)

Moon Sworn is an introduction to ‘The Bound Series’, (Heated Shifter Romance). The story and the characters continue throughout the PNR Serial. (Not a standalone).

35267975At 4-years old Maya Rawlings witnessed her own father horrifically murder her mother. Brought up by an older aunt she knows nothing of her family history.

She wants a family of her own to make up for all that she’s lost, but it’s difficult to achieve when she’s not attracted to anyone. That is until the night of her 21st birthday when a strange mark appears on the palm of her hand. The mark was followed by re-currant nightmares of fleeing for her life, and the voice of a man offering her things she’s always dreamed of. Is he real or is she finally losing her mind?

Jaden Matthews is a loner who never settles in one place. He doesn’t do forever, not after the murder of his parents and younger brother. That is until fate decides to step in and a mark appears on his hand, it seems he now has a mate.

After waiting for 21-years for her to mature, the clock is now ticking. First, he needs to find her and his search leads him back to a place he’d vowed never to return. He’s not the only one there hunting her though.

Can he use his skills to not only get rid of the threat to her life but also persuade her to agree to the binding? Or will he be destined to walk a limited lifespan alone, as the animal he becomes?

Contains erotic scenes and profanity.

My Review:

An entertaining shifter mystery romance with suspense, humour and some steamy scenes.

Even though they had never met, Maya has been dreaming about Jaden for the past five years, and Jaden has been searching for Maya, his mate. Not everything goes to plan however when they meet.

Both Maya and Jaden have tragic pasts, and they’re not the only ones, other members of the supernatural community have been targeted by rogue shifters. When Maya’s life is threatened, her friends, Binks and Sam, help Jaden protect her and her newly found family members from danger.

I enjoyed meeting the cast of diverse and complex characters that are gradually introduced. I hope we get to know more about the other characters in future books. Maya is smart and sassy, and is no pushover and although to begin with, Jaden comes across as a pushy alpha male, he also has a much softer and caring side.

I like the way the author has built a supernatural community in the quiet village of Lunaton, living side by side with unsuspecting humans, and the way she has tied in things like crop-circles to that community.

This is the first book I’ve read by JF Holland, and it was a super introduction to The Bound Series. I will certainly be reading more.

The Author

J_F_HollandI still live in the small town in Partington in Manchester, UK. I was born at home on January 10th 1968. Now a wife and mother, I live with my husband and 6 children, and a small menagerie of animals, still in the town I was born, raised, and attended school.

I’ve always loved the underdog, the fighter. But, let’s face it, we all want to believe in a happily ever after. As a huge fan of books (book nerd is the endearing term, my children use), as I have an immense romance collection (which also includes paranormal romance). It usually means if I’m not writing, I’ve got my head stuck in a good book.

You can’t beat reading. I love watching the plot and characters come to life in my imagination; so much better than television. When I was younger, I tended to re-write books and fairy-tales where I wasn’t completely happy with the ending. It confused the hell out of my children once they learned to read as none of the books matched the stories I’d been reading to them growing up.

Until I became ill, I had a varied career including Admin, Customer Service, and Teaching unemployed adults IT and customer service skills. I’m now at home full time, classed as disabled (neuro fog can make life, and writing fun and challenging at times). So instead of twiddling my thumbs and feeling sorry for myself, I decided it was time I started to do something which I love with my life. So, I began to write my own stories again, it keeps my mind active and it’s fun. I’m also happy to receive feedback about my books (stories) or just to connect :-

Excerpt:

Damien and Daniel were very much alike, and I much preferred Damien, which was just as well, really. Their look and build were so similar they could have been twins, but they weren’t.

Rachel was saying, “Every encounter I’ve had with her has been on the stairs or the landing. I even heard her name whispered. That’s why I knew it. I couldn’t believe it when you said it out loud, Cassie. Have you come across something like this before?”

The waitress arrived and took our orders. When she left, they looked at me expectantly.

“Nothing surprises me anymore. Your ghost seems intent on reliving the day she died. She was a slave brought into the country and then someone killed her.”

Rachel gasped, Daniel and Damien appeared sceptical and Damien said, “Come on, how can you possibly know that…”

“I saw someone at the top of the stairs, they moved away as I looked up.”

“They’re not real, y’know,” Damien said.

Rachel answered him. “Then how do you explain what happened?”

He shook his head. “I don’t know, it’s just bizarre.”

“It is.” I agreed.

“Well, I’m sorry,” Rachel said, emphatically. “There is no way I’m moving in with her walking up and down the stairs like that.”

Daniel huffed, his eyes gazing heavenwards with expirations. “This is going well!”

“So, what’s next?” Rachel asked, looking at me. Her large eyes blinked several times, and I think she expected me to perform a miracle.

“All I can tell you is what you already know. The house is haunted. I don’t know if I can stop it if that’s what you’re expecting.”

“Karen J Mossman manages something quite unique. This is a story that will make you laugh and scare you at the same time.”

Excerpt:

This short chapter in A Love Haunting begins Jordan’s existence as a Living Dead (LD). It appears a quarter of the way into the novel. It takes place after he feels he has lost his one true love and just before he meets Luke, a skateboarding angel, and the trio of ghosts from the 1800s who become his friend.

Love… death… forever. That’s the story of my life apparently.
So Emily had left the Banks. In my mind, I knew she had to go, but now I am lonelier than I’ve ever been in my life. Right after the accident, my world was devastated because of my loss of Emily, our baby and… my life.
And then when Emily was in the hospital, I found a way to be near to her again, if only in a small way. Now she is gone and my life is really over. Now I have no one.
Sure I could have hung around Allie, bugging her but it would not have been fair to her. Besides, she was on her way to being a nurse practitioner, and I knew she’d be a damn good one. So while Allie was in school, I was going to leave her be, but I did plan on helping her when she embarked on her new career. Besides, I wanted to convince Allie to shoot bigger and become a doctor. Being a physician was her real calling, she just didn’t know it yet.
In the meantime, I made up my mind I was going to make the best of my new dead life, and that would require some hands-on research. Research had always been one of my strong suits. That and evaluation.
And there was something else I wanted to research but didn’t dare until I figured out all the rules and restrictions of my dead existence. I didn’t want to lose my wife, so I was going to try to… do something.
So since I had loads of free time on my hands, I would start by exploring to see what was what.

What am I supposed to do about my feelings now that I’m dead? My life can’t end like this. It just can’t.
Wow, I hadn’t allowed myself to admit that I was actually dead until now. Dead and buried and the whole nine yards.
Well, it’s true. I died a few feet off a highway in North Carolina, not far from my favorite vacation paradise – the Outer Banks.
I am a ghost, and this is my love story.

Meet The Author:

Suzi_Albracht2My name is Suzi Albracht. I live just outside of Annapolis, Maryland which is in the Baltimore/Washington corridor. I mention the corridor because that is where all my books in The Devil’s Due collection take place. My book, A Love Haunting, takes place in the OBX, NC where we vacation every year. I prefer to write stories that take place in locations where I have spent time.

I typically write in the dark realm, that means Supernatural Horror Crime Fiction and most recently, Paranormal Romance/Ghosts. The horror books are Death Most Wicked, The Devil’s Lieutenant, and Scorn Kills. All three books are part of The Devil’s Due Collection.

My most recent release is A Love Haunting which is book one of my An OBX Hauntings series. It is a paranormal romance, a ghost story that takes place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This book is so much fun to write. I am taking local lore and threading it through my story. And I get to write about love in a way that my other stories haven’t yet allowed me.

I am currently working on three more books – Her Deadly Intentions which is part of The Devil’s Due Collection, Lucifer’s Queen, also part of the collection, and a second book in An OBX Hauntings series. I also have a political thriller in the works.

My books are like my children so of course, they are all my favorites but if I am forced to pick one or two, I would say Death Most Wicked and my new novel, A Love Haunting.

I love Death because it introduces Mikael Ruskoff, my favorite character. It shows his love for his family, his hatred for the father who deserted him, and his devotion to his mother. At the same time, you get to know what a dedicated law enforcement officer he is while he risks his own life to stop a child murderer.

I am equally proud of my new book, A Love Haunting, because it allows me to show a softer side in my writing. I am free to show that silly love couples have in private, the yearning love of innocents. Plus I got to play with the whole ghost concept which pleased me to no end. I’ve always been fascinated with ghosts. It was also my first book with no profanity or violence. It was like a refreshing after-dinner drink.

Guest Post by Suzi Albracht:

This is a character interview with Luke, the skateboarding angel.

I was pleased that Luke agreed to do an interview with me. I had read the book, A Love Haunting, and was anxious to get some insight into Luke’s role. We arranged to meet at the Dune Burger in Nags Head at ten p.m. I had never been there before but felt as if I knew it from reading about it. When I arrived, Luke was nowhere to be seen. I began to worry a bit that he was standing me up.

I decided to take a seat at one of the outdoor tables and go over my list of questions for him. I had just opened my note book and put it on the table. My pen was missing so I rummaged through my purse, looking for another. Suddenly my note book slid about six inches away from my hand. I pulled it back, looking around. I didn’t think it was that windy. Oh well, I thought.

I turned to look for that pen again but now my purse was gone. I immediately jumped to my feet. I fumbled around, thinking I’d call the cops but then I remembered my phone was in my purse. And then right before my eyes, my purse materialized where it had been. I heard a faint giggle. Frowning, I grabbed it. And then it came to me.

“Luke?” I looked around. Before I could even blink, he materialized next to me.

“Dudette,” Luke said with a grin on his face.

“Hi, I am very pleased to meet you.” I held out my hand to shake, hoping Luke would oblige me. He did, but it was a high-five.

I silently appraised Luke’s appearance. Holding a skateboard under one arm, he was wearing surfer shorts, a long sleeve skater tee shirt, black Chuck Taylors, black fingerless gloves, and a silver chain with a medallion. I was dying to see what was on the medallion but felt it was too soon to get that personal.

Luke, however, is very perceptive. In an instant, I realized that he noticed my interest.

“Dudette, you dig my jangles?” Luke asked fingering the medallion. I nodded. “One of my peeps gifted me.” He stepped closer to me holding the medallion so I could see it.

“When you say peeps, are you referring to souls you have transitioned?” I grabbed my note book and pen, preparing to take notes. Luke took one look at them and began to pop-lock dance in front of me. I was taken back. Why would he do that?

I don’t know if Luke saw the look of surprise on my face or not but after a few minutes, Luke sat down at the table and put a serious look on his face. “Allie said you had some questions for me. You’re probably on a deadline… please, ask away, dudette.”

Every time he called me dudette, I wanted to fall down laughing. But I had a mission to complete.
“When you help the newly dead to transition… can you describe the feeling to me that you get when you are able to get them to Heaven?” I asked.

Luke gazed into my eyes with those big eyes of his. He leaned toward me, his face was glowing, his eyes shining. I felt I was about to hear some celestial secret. Instead, he put his thumb and index fingertip on my nose and tweaked it. I know my mouth was hanging open with surprise.

The next thing I knew, he jumped up and took my hand, placing it on his shoulder. Then he put his arm around my waist and took my other hand in his. We began to waltz around the parking lot.

I have to say the guy has some smooth moves.

Luke turned his attention on me and said, “It makes me feel like this. Like all is right in the world.”

Then all of a sudden hip hop music blared out of a new Chevy Camaro that drove into the parking lot. I glanced at Luke but he was no longer there. I must have looked silly to the driver of the Camaro because he asked me if I was alright. I suppose I did look silly dancing with an imaginary partner. I looked behind his car and there was Luke skateboarding up the street.

I would have called out to him but I suddenly had the feeling that angels don’t like being interviewed.

Excerpt:

Brayden gazed into the woman’s vivid blue eyes. Her blonde hair flowed down her shoulders, soft, silky. She curled her fingers around the hair at the nape of his neck, and brought her mouth close to his. His heart beat erratically in anticipation of the moment their lips would touch. He shut his eyes, then felt the softest, sweetest sensation of his life. He tasted her sweet lips, shuddered as her tongue played with his. He wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her closely, tightly. His entire body quivered as it was pressed against hers. She began to pull away. He held her to him. She broke the kiss.

She looked at him with sadness in her eyes. He could feel it — she was leaving. He felt like she’d left him a thousand times before. That they were endlessly reliving this moment. He tried to hold onto her, but she turned and began to fade from view. He grasped at her disappearing figure, but his hands clutched air. She was gone.

He stood there, sorrow consuming him. Then the faint sounds of bells twinkling, and her soft, sweet voice.

Find me.

Excerpt:

Hallie gritted her teeth, all Sean’s kinds words wiped out by his last comment. “You know I have to hide it!” she exclaimed. She rubbed her face with her hand, hating that he didn’t understand. She huffed, wishing she could explain it to him. “I have to hide it after what happened. You don’t know what it’s like, being afraid of letting go. Being afraid of getting too emotional. You make it sound as if I just suddenly became more confident and believed in myself, all my problems would be solved, but they wouldn’t be! I still have all this power, power I can’t control, and it could hurt people! I just wish you’d accept me as I am.” Hallie crossed her arms over her chest, immediately regretting all she’d just said. She hated it when they fought like this. She expected Sean to get upset with her and argue back, like they sometimes did, but he only sighed.

“How long are you going to make me wait, Hallie?” he whispered.

She looked at him in confusion, seeing a pleading look in his beautiful green eyes. She frowned. “Wait for what?”

He smiled crookedly. “Never mind. It doesn’t matter.”

She sat up straight. “Wait for what?”

He only shook his head, looking down. Hallie felt her heart beat faster. What was he talking about? Did he mean…? She found it hard to breathe. She wanted to touch him, to reach out and take his hand, but she was suddenly too nervous. Don’t get too emotional. She tried to breathe deeply, tried to clear her head, but her heart was beating too fast and her breath was shallow and her hands were starting to shake.

Sean suddenly looked at her. “What’s wrong?”

She only shook her head. I’m in love with you, you big, stupid idiot, she thought, and shut her eyes, trying to ignore him.

Then his arms were around her and he leaned her against his chest. He gently kissed her hair, holding her to him. She melted into him, letting out a little sigh. He laughed. “I feel it too, you know,” he whispered, and she looked at him in surprise. He gave the same crooked smile. “I’ve been waiting for you to become more confident, for you to believe in yourself, because I want this to be right. I don’t want to be with you until you’re strong—if we’re together now, all your strength will come from me, and I want you to be strong from you. From inside. Oh, Hallie, I’ve wanted to kiss you since you were twelve, but I can’t. Not yet. Do you understand?”

High Coven

Excerpt:

Alexandra kept a careful eye on her. She thought about how much Julia had changed since she turned one a few months ago. Walking, talking more, seeming to understand so much. Although looking after her daughter mostly on her own was very difficult, she adored her child, loved her with her whole heart. It was a blessing, however, that her parents and sister lived close by, as they were able to help a great deal. Alexandra received no help from Julia’s father—and never would. She scowled as she thought of the devil.

He’d arrived in town out of nowhere, handsome, charming, seemingly wealthy, and had a confidence about him, brought on partly by his ability with magic. While warlocks and witches were often frowned upon, Cameron was proud of being a warlock, amusing those in the town with shape-shifting.

He’d pursued Alexandra, who was working at the local tavern as a waitress. Men never pursued her—an unmarried woman close to thirty was viewed as odd, strange, an outcast. People suspected there must be something wrong with her, although she’d have wiped the smile off their face if they’d said it to her directly.

But Cameron went after her as if she was the most beautiful woman in the world, and Alexandra couldn’t help but succumb to him in the end. They had a glorious handful of weeks together, but when Alexandra told him she was pregnant, he disappeared, just like that.

That’s when she discovered he wasn’t wealthy—he’d conned his way into everything he’d had. He was nothing but a charlatan, a fake, and Alexandra felt like such a fool for falling for him. In the end, though, she had Julia, and she couldn’t ask for anything more. She still worked as a waitress, with her mother or sister watching Julia when she had her shifts.

There was only one thing, however, that always worried her.

Julia was a witch. A powerful one. Alexandra knew nothing of magic. But the spells she’d seen her daughter cast, without even trying—spells of every kind, just pouring out of her—it was a concern. How was she going to raise a witch?

And why in the world was Julia’s magic so strong?

Q&A’s with Mona Hanna:

What do you do to unwind and relax?

When I want to unwind I like to watch TV – I enjoy dramas like Scandal – and I also like to read, play games on my phone, and listen to music. I enjoy exercise – it might sound weird but it helps me to de-stress if I go for a walk or put on an exercise video. Then of course there’s spending time with my friends, and my cats!

Do you have a favorite movie? which of your novels can you imagine made into
a movie?

My favorite movie is probably The Princess Bride. I love how it’s so clever and sweet and well written. I imagine High Witch would make a good movie, as it contains action, romance and drama. I’d love it if one of my books was made into a movie one day, or even better, a musical!

Do you prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?

I prefer to write with music or the TV going. I really don’t like sitting in a quiet room – it’s easier for me to get into ‘work mode’ if there’s noise in the background. It might be an album I like or just TV shows I don’t need to pay attention to, and that will help me work on the book.

Excerpt:  (part 1)

“Calm down? Calm down!” My breathing was fast and ragged. The room was beginning to spin. Whatever was happening to me was their fault. It had to be. My lungs began to ache. I couldn’t breathe. I needed air. Even more than that, I needed to get out of here. I needed to be far away from them with their expressions of pitying fear. “You made me a monster. I hate you for this!”
I launched from the marble counter, shot through to the entryway and escaped out the front door. The cool night air hit me as my feet pounded the gravel driveway. A spray of white snow kicked up behind me. I could feel my muscles lengthening and retracting like tightly coiled springs, pushing me forward at an inhuman speed. Houses flew past in a monochrome blur. My eyes focused only in front of me. Freezing wind whipped past my face and into my eyes. In the T-shirt and jeans I had on, the wind chill should have bit into my skin. Should have, but didn’t. I wasn’t even cold. These changes inside me further confirmed my fears. They were telling the truth. I was a…
vampire.
I shook the unbelievable word from my mind and focused on the pavement as the balls of my feet hit harder and faster. I knew my intended destination. The night club my best friend, Kendrick, visited every Friday when he wasn’t off snowboarding. Right now I needed his support, and hoped for his undying loyalty. Seething fear surged adrenaline through my body and gripped me from within. What if he thought I was a monster too? Imagining his reaction terrified me. How could he accept this…this living nightmare I was becoming?
The passing houses fell behind me, replaced by commercial strips. I pushed myself faster still, keeping to the shadows and somehow passing with ease the moving cars on the streets. I pulled to an abrupt halt after taking a shortcut through an unlit alley. To the right was the club’s entrance, with a bright flashing neon sign above the doorway.
Pulse.
A solid-built bouncer manning the door caught sight of me as I neared. “ID?” It was clear from his smirk that he knew I was underage.
I gulped, shrugging my shoulders. “Please, I just need to find my friend.”
The bouncer’s smirk thinned into a humorless line. “No ID, no entry.”
Like an irritating itch you can’t quite reach, his radiating aura of authority angered me. I squared my shoulders and clenched my jaw, staring him down. “Let me in.”
The bouncer’s superior expression faltered. He blinked once, then slowly pulled back the velvet robe and stood aside. I darted through the entry, so relieved to be inside that I didn’t stop to question his split-second change in attitude.

Excerpt:  (part 2)

The pulsing music hit me first, sending shockwave vibrations through my body and painfully through my ears. The smell, like walking straight into a brick wall, hit me second. Salt, body odor, alcohol, and a scent I’d never experienced before tonight: blood. My mouth watered while the other scents made me want to gag. Trying to ignore the draw of that new scent, I pushed myself away from the gyrating bodies on the strobe-lit dance floor and over to the bar. The scents dulled as my distance grew.
With a ragged breath, I slid onto one of the barstools, scanning the busy crowd for Kendrick. Please be here.
A guy’s strong cologne hit me even before he spoke. But it wasn’t Kendrick. It was Joel Nickel, a senior and, as star quarterback, the king of our school. “Hey, hot stuff,” he began with slurred speech, and then paused. “Hey, I know you. You’re a sophomore, Amily or something?” He smiled and winked. “Fake ID huh? Planning to get messy and have some fun tonight?”
Part of me was thrilled that the superstar of our school was even acknowledging my existence. The other part just wanted him to leave so I could scope out Kendrick. “Amelia,” I said, and turned to the bar, hoping he’d get a clue and leave me the hell alone. He didn’t.
Instead, he took a step closer. “Come on babe, how’s about a drink?”
He was too close, standing only an inch from me. I could smell his blood under the astringent cologne, and worse than that, I could hear his quickening pulse.
“No!” I snapped, muscles twitching, aching with thirst. “Go away.”
Joel chuckled, amused. “Playing hard to get?” He inclined his lips to graze my ear. “I like a challenge.”
His alcohol-drenched breath beat against my neck, sending a ripple down my spine. I could hear the blood pumping faster and louder through his body. Too close. Too freaking close!
That already-too-familiar tingle danced across my gums. My mouth salivated. I went to move, to force myself away from him before I became the monster from my favorite Skillet song. His hand caught my shoulder, and it was more than I could take. His scent was now stronger, moving with arousal through his veins.
No longer in control—no longer even myself—I spun on the spot and whispered, “Dark and secluded…”

Excerpt:  (part 3)

A victorious smile tugged at Joel’s lips. He curled an arm around my waist, pulling me from the bar. We passed the partygoers and slipped out the back door and into the dark alley. Urine and the wafting smell of garbage from a nearby dumpster coupled the scent of his blood.
Joel turned to face me. But I was faster. My hands shot up to his shoulders, nails digging in as I drove him back against the brick wall.
He chuckled, amused. “A fiery one… I knew it.”
His complete lack of awareness to the threat before him angered and excited me. The option to stop, to walk away, was long gone. The thirst had taken over. His hands found my waist and traveled up, forcing their way beneath the fabric of my T-shirt.
Disgusted by his touch, I jerked his back off the wall then slammed him back against the bricks. “Don’t move!”
Joel’s hands dropped obediently and he smiled. “You’re the boss.”
His words evoked a broad smile across my face. Too broad, I realized, as his own smile fell. His eyes widened in shocked disbelief. “What the fuck?”
Moving at lightning speed, I clamped a hand over his mouth and forced his face to the side. I pressed my other hand against his chest, pinning him to the wall. His arms flailed, but it was no use. I was stronger. My eyes zeroed in on a fat vein pulsing along his neck. Then instinct took over. My teeth plunged into his flesh. The warm, metallic taste of his blood filled my mouth. It was an entrancing flavor coupled by the sound of his racing pulse.
A moan of pleasure escaped his lips and his muscles relaxed. His resistance had ceased. That’s when I noticed it. His heart was slowing. The blood loss…
I’m killing him. Part of me cried out to release him, to not be the monster my uncle and mom had claimed me to be. But I couldn’t stop. I didn’t want to.
When his body slumped against me, my strength somehow kept him pinned. Death was close. Still, I couldn’t stop. Not now. Not yet. Not when something buried so deep within me was awakening.
The smells of the alley soared, muddling together in their intensity to become indiscernible. And I could hear…
everything: stray drops of rain hitting puddles, rats gnawing on discarded rubbish. Then something else reached my ears, something quieter. Footsteps?

Born To Die

Book #4

Amelia will do anything to save her best friend’s life…even when he’s already dead.

Born-To-Die-Kindle_401x600After Amelia’s twin Marcus snapped her best friend’s neck, a letter lets her hope his death may not be his ultimate end. But as they fight to save her best friend and stop her twin, it all starts to fall apart. Even Ty’s hybrid blood can’t keep Amelia’s dangerous impulses in check—and Amelia can’t keep hiding her feelings for the guy she never stopped loving.
Vampires, werewolves, the dead, and the undead…who will win the final showdown?

Excerpt:  (part 4)

A blur shot from the shadows. Something as hard as concrete connected with my arm, ripping me from my victim. Then I was flying backward through the air as Joel crumpled to the ground. I connected with a thud against the adjacent wall before falling in a heap on the uneven asphalt. Instantly, the spell of Joel’s blood was broken. The reality of what I had just done spun like a maelstrom through my mind. I’d killed him!
Tears plagued my eyes, spilling down my face and tinting my sight rose-colored. I swiped at them, but stalled. Blood was smeared across the back of my hands. Crying blood?
I barely had time to wonder how that was possible when the intruder’s towering shadow closed in on me. He clutched something in his hand that glinted silver with the escaping moonlight. A weapon? I blinked up through tear-filled eyes, knowing my life was about to end. With heavy clouds blocking the moonlight again, and through my distorted vision, I could barely make out his dark features. “Kill me,” I sniffed, letting my bloody tears stream down my face like a waterfall. “I’m a fucking monster!”
The boy with hair black as night faltered, pausing right before me. The hand holding the weapon stalled. “You
want to die?”

About the Author:
512AuJqk08L._UX250_Jessica L Myers’ vivid imagination and quiet demeanor as a child led her to the imaginary worlds of books. Even at a young age, her love for the supernatural was prevalent, with her first loved books being R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series. Following that she took an interest in other non-fantasy fiction, including Virginia C. Andrews series Flowers in the Attic.

In her teen years, Jessica spent many school hours writing poetry and dark short stories and took up sketching some of the terrifying things that came from the graphic night terrors she’d grown up with.

As an adult and after meeting the love of her life, Jessica got married and started a small construction business with her husband. With the birth of her son, Jessica suffered PPD and found escape in her books and their fantasy landscapes. It was at this time that her need to write flourished. In 2009 the decision was made and the first words to her New Adult Paranormal Romance novel What Lies Inside were written.

When Jessica isn’t immersed in writing about extraordinary characters with dangerous abilities and deadly obstacles to overcome, she likes to spend time with her two kids and husband, curl up with a good book, or watch anything and everything supernatural.
