Playing with Fire

by Clare Meyers & Cris Meyers

51qE0iSS3OL._SY346_An interesting beginning to a new series.

Magic, shapeshifting and crime all blend together to make this enjoyable read by husband and wife team, Cris and Clare Meyers.

Talented thief, Renee and her partner, Stone, join a trio of shapeshifters, Rook, Carlos and Grace, to steal a magical gem, and take revenge against the man who set them up on a previous job.
But in their line of work, nothing is quite what it seems.

Although the book is much more about the planning and the action, I did enjoy getting acquainted with the characters and hope to get to know them better in the next book of the series.

Loner Renee Devereaux is a thief with a lot to hide, and trust is a risk she rarely takes. Stone Anders is a mercenary and hitman, but being a hired killer isn’t fitting like it used to. But while they are criminals, they are anything but common. Renee and Stone are Talents, and their supernatural powers give them an edge in a high stakes business where one wrong move could be their last.

It’s always just one job, and everyone scatters—sometimes in less than favorable circumstances. For Renee and Stone, that’s business as usual. But things change.

A chance at revenge draws Renee and Stone into a job they know they shouldn’t take. The job: Steal a dangerous magical artifact before it can be used. Along with the deadline, they’ll have to deal with a loudmouth hacker with problematic connections, a rookie who still believes in ‘right’ and ‘wrong,’ and a professional liar with a cat’s curiosity.

Worse, something just doesn’t feel right.

But this is their job. They have a reputation to maintain, a paycheck to earn, and a score to settle…

Fly by Night

by Clare Meyers & Cris Meyers

31925656The ‘gang’ from book 1, Playing with Fire, are back. They’ve moved on from the events in Seattle, but they haven’t forgotten, or forgiven.

This, the second book in the series is told from Rooks point of view and is a superb sequel.
Rook never knows when to keep his mouth shut and his thoughts to himself, which makes for some great moments. Half the time I wanted to gag him, the rest of the time I wanted to hug him!

The characters all evolve and grow in their own ways, during the story, and we learn more about them, their past and their relationships.

The plot is well thought out, and this book has more action and suspense than the previous one.

I enjoyed Playing with Fire… I loved Fly by Night!

The game has changed.

Rook is a wisecracking hacker, a shapeshifter who prefers the name ‘were-crow,’ and former underling to a Talented crime boss. But as supernatural powers go, he’s no heavy hitter.

After a job blew up in his face, Rook thought the worst thing he’d have to deal with was criminal unemployment. But when he starts losing his mind to mysterious voices, being broke takes a backseat. And once his apartment goes up in smoke, Rook knows he’s in trouble.

Out of his depth and trying to dig his way out of a hole not entirely of his own making, Rook must put his survival—and his sanity—in the hands of people who have their own mysterious reasons for helping him.

With trust in short supply and time ticking down, Rook will need to find a way to make this uneasy alliance work before even more of his life goes up in flames.

Book 2 of the Criminal Elements urban fantasy series

Code Wolf

by C.D. Gorri

34747449 I really enjoyed this new book from C.D. Gorri.

As with her previous books, it’s set in ‘Grazi Kelly’s world’. This one, however, is definitely not YA!

I loved learning more about Randall, and his unexpected love interest, Tulla, along with Tulla’s special son, Danny.
The book is well-written, easy to read and hard to put down. The descriptive writing allows you to join the fleshed out characters on their adventures.

“He never thought of himself as a family man, but sometimes things changed… ”

Randall Graves spends most of his time writing lines of code in his air-conditioned office at Macconwood Manor. He’d rather be alone than risk involvement of any kind. Everything was going fine, until his Alpha sends him on a forced vacation.

It’s all good with Randall, as long as there’s WIFI at the small, beachfront, bed and breakfast in Bloody Point, South Carolina. He could work and get some sun at the same time, but he wasn’t counting on Tulla Nirvelli. The beautiful single mother owned and operated the small B &B with her seven-year old son.

Charmed by the small island and the young family, Randall finds himself enjoying his time at the Sea Mist Bed & Breakfast. When trouble starts brewing for Tulla and her son, Randall is ready to jump in, but that means revealing his secret. Will she accept the truth about him?

The Name of Death

by Joshua Robertson

33636392 I enjoyed this short story from Joshua Robertson.

It was a well-written and entertaining read.
The characters were fairly well fleshed out for such a short tale.

A good introduction to the authors writing and to the world in his novels, which I look forward to reading.

Drada Koehn is a fearless, formidable fighter ensnared in a presaged war against the northern humans. When the Speaker foretells their victory upon discovery of the name of death, she sets out to unravel the mysterious prophecy. Now, bound by duty and honor, Drada faces untold horrors with her companions, searching for what may never be found. In a story of unexpected twists, she soon finds that her resolve to see the quest done will be the fortune or doom of her people.

Dark Legends

32721381 I enjoyed quite a few of the books in this set and will be looking to read other books by some of the authors.

If you like stories with Dragons, Ghosts, Mermaids, Shifters, Vampires, Witches… and much more, you’re bound to find a story in here that you enjoy.

Some of the stories worked well as standalone reads, while others were obviously part of a series.

As a bunch of the books were steamy (one or two more steam than story) this is definitely an adult only box set.

All in all, this collection of books was good value and a great way to find ‘new-to-me’ authors.

This Collection is packed with more than 20 full-length Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance reads from New York Times, USA Today, and International Bestselling Authors!

Don’t miss this collection of more than twenty unique twists in paranormal romance and urban fantasy, providing over one million words of supernatural suspense that will transport you to new worlds with smoking hot action and heart-throttling adventure!

The DARK LEGENDS boxed set includes: Mermaids, Sirens, Shifters, Vampires, Dragons, Sorcerers, Warriors, Angels, Faeries, Demons, Witches, Psychics, Ghosts, Mythology, Folk Tales, Legends, Dark Magic, Time Travel, and More!

The book encourages its readers to be happy and to love themselves.

Eating Bees in Bed by Annette Blair

13316975_1126120447409540_2986088606628501766_o

McKenna Greylock is in desperate need of a jack-of-all-trades to help turn her Victorian home into a bed-and-breakfast. She has a tight budget and ninety days to meet the building inspector’s approval—or the house will be repossessed and purchased by a duplicitous developer.

To McKenna’s surprise, the gorgeous Bastian Dragonelli not only possesses the speed, strength, and agility to get the job done, but he sets her soul ablaze with a fiery passion she’s never experienced. If McKenna can accept Bastian’s true nature—as a dragon warrior—she’ll find her life heating up in more ways than one…

REVIEWS
Blair continues to delight and amaze her fans with her mystical tales and magnificent talent.”
~Reader to Reader Reviews

“I can’t wait to read another of Blair’s novels.”
~Romance Junkies

“A laugh-out-loud read. It is in her characters that Blair’s talent shines. Their dialogue sparkles so much you’ll need sunglasses.”
~Ann, formerly of Scribesworld

“If you love paranormal romance, if you love good conquering evil, if you love dragons, goofy faeries, and the like, you will love this book… Annette Blair never fails to make me want more. When can I get the next one Ms. Blair? Tomorrow is not too soon.
~Doni, Romance in the Backseat

“Forget the demons, give me the dragons! Full of suspense, humor, and romance, this novel is sure to please any paranormal or fantasy fan. For anyone who read the author’s previous novels, you will be treated to a cameo or two … one more way the author makes her stories special. Annette Blair is one in a billion!”
~Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews

“McKenna Greylock, still mourning the deaths of her mother and grandmother, is trying to fulfill a dream of turning the rundown family home into a bed-and-breakfast. When she hires Bastian Dragonelli, a handyman whose rudimentary grasp of English is hilariously literal, she does not suspect that he is a dragon warrior on a mission to save his brothers.
Despite wanting to keep her distance, McKenna is curiously drawn to Bastian. Blair’s unusual paranormal features charming characters, rich relationships, an inviting community, and sensuous lovemaking, all rolled up in a rollicking good read.”
~Diana Tixier Herald, Booklist

Blair’s first story in [this] series introduces wonderfully magical dragon men. The adjustments the hero must make to fit into this modern world are delightfully handled, and the main characters’ interactions with each other, and those around them make for a fun and enjoyable escape from reality. HOT.
~Susan Mobley, RT

A highly entertaining magical read. Annette Blair once again proves why she’s on my auto buy list. Everything I have ever read by this author has a place on my keeper shelf. I can’t wait to see where she takes this series next. I have to admit, I cried at the end. A truly heartfelt sigh worthy ending. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of magic and true love.
~Chere Gruver, ParaNormalRomance

Dear Reader,

51Abt61-mVL._UX250_I’ve been gobsmacked! I hit the New York Times Bestseller List last year! Talk about a milestone. Hugs and thanks for making this possible. I could never have done it without you.

It’s been seven years since I left my job as a Development Director at a New England Prep School to become a full time writer, and I am still loving the daylights out of it.

I didn’t always know I wanted to be a writer, but I discovered Jane Eyre soon after I got my first library card. I was eleven and put a romantic spin on every story I read. I wrote romances about friends and their boyfriends. Racy stuff for which my friends’ mothers did not thank me.

When my children were young, I jotted plot ideas on corners of envelopes, recipe cards, and such, and threw them in my nightstand. After discussing a romance novel with my teenaged daughter, she challenged me to write one of my own. That day, I sorted through my plot ideas, picked one, and started. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I had a good time. Then I made my first sale.

As a writer, I’ve journeyed to Regency England; Victorian Amish America, twenty-first century Salem, Massachusetts, Newport, Rhode Island, and Mystic, Connecticut. I started by falling in love and now I’m solving mysteries. I’ve befriended a host of sassy, sexy witches who tantalize and torment the dishy men in their lives.

Hopefully, those same characters, witches and rogues alike, will make some magic for you.

My books are available in ebook, trade paperback, mass market paperback, and audio book formats. Recently I re-released The Rogues Club, a series of Regency Historical Romances. UNDENIABLE ROGUE, UNFORGETTABLE ROGUE, UNMISTAKABLE ROGUE & UNTAMABLE ROGUE They’re Unputdownable.

After the Rogues came the Scoundrels: SEA SCOUNDREL, CAPTIVE SCOUNDREL, PROPER SCOUNDREL & HOLY SCOUNDREL, all available for your reading pleasure.

My all-time favorite authors are Agatha Christie, Jane Austin and Charlotte Bronte.

A NOTE TO READERS:

EATING BEES IN BED is a new and improved version of Naked Dragon. One minor character was replaced by another from my backlist so as not to use characters from books still owned by Random House. This is a STEAMY Contemporary Romantic Fantasy. I did a complete rewrite, making improvements, guided by many of the critiques I found in your reviews.
It has been re-edited by a professional. A sincere thank you to my wonderful readers who took the time to review the original with positive reinforcement and constructive criticism.

Will the handsome, alpha billionaire really be a solution to her problems, or will he end up being a major complication and a danger to her emotional sanity?

Reclusive billionaire Simon Hudson would rather be behind a computer creating computer games than rubbing elbows with the elite and he knows exactly what he wants…until he meets Kara Foster. Something about Kara touches Simon in ways he’s never experienced and definitely doesn’t like. For over a year, Simon watches over Kara, but stubbornly refuses to admit his desire to possess her, not even to himself. But when she ends up in a situation that could very well be her destruction, Simon steps up to help her, not realizing that in saving Kara, he might very well be salvaging his own soul.

(This is an erotic romance. It contains graphic language, very steamy love scenes and lots of emotion.)

Bonus story:

Maddie’s Secret

One Summer Evening in July:

“I think Mom has a boyfriend,” Sam Hudson stated bluntly to Maddie as he walked intothe kitchen and dropped his briefcase on the table.

Maddie turned around from the dinner that was simmering on the stove and smiled at her husband, chewing on her lip just a little as she saw him. She wondered if there would ever be a day that his heartstopping, handsome face and masculine presence wouldn’t send her heart into overdrive. Every time she saw him, she wanted to drop her panties and jump on him. Even after a long day at the office, and just a little bit rumpled, her husband looked delicious in a suit and tie, his blond hair a little mussed, probably because he’d just run a hand through it from the frustration she could see on his face.

“And that would be a problem…um…why?” Sam didn’t look the least bit happy about the fact that his mother had an admirer, a fact that she’d already been aware of and hadn’t had a chance to mention to Sam. She’d just had coffee with Kara and Helen a few days ago, and she knew about the flowers, gifts and romantic notes Helen had been receiving. The older woman had been flustered, but she looked like she was glowing from the attention.

Sam came to her, wrapping his arms around her waist and moving her away from the stove, her ass hitting a cupboard behind her. “Because she’s my mother and she isn’t really sure where they’re coming from. It could be some nut job or a crazy stalker.”

Maddie pushed on Sam’s broad chest, lifting an eyebrow at him as she met his gaze, trying not to let herself fall into his gorgeous eyes. “Just because she’s your mother does not mean she can’t have a beau. If anyone deserves happiness, it’s her. And I doubt very much that a stalker or a nut job would send such thoughtful, respectful notes trying to court her.”

Sam looked startled. “You knew about it? And you didn’t tell me?” His surprised look turned into a frown.

“Yes. I just found out a few days ago and your mom looks happy. You and Simon need to leave her alone unless something inappropriate happens. This man obviously adores her and you don’t need to ruin it for her,” Maddie admonished him. “And I haven’t had a chance to tell you. We’ve been occupied the last few evenings.” Honestly, her husband had been insatiable. After returning from an overnight business trip a few days ago, it was like he had to make up for lost time by taking her straight to the bedroom. Or taking her on the couch. Or in the kitchen. Not that she was exactly complaining.

“We had to spend nearly fortyeight hours apart. I missed you,” Sam replied huskily, his eyes riveted on her lips.

“I could tell,” she told him softly, her core clenching at the memories of the proof of just how much he’d missed her. “Just let things evolve with your mom, okay? I think it’s all very mysterious and romantic.”

“She’s my mother,” he grumbled.

“She’s also a woman who needs love,” Maddie reminded him.

“Simon and I love her.”

“And she loves you. But didn’t you still want me? She deserves to be romanced,” Maddie argued, pushing out of his embrace and crossing her arms stubbornly across her chest, tapping her foot impatiently, waiting for her husband to be reasonable. “Let her have this romance, Sam. Please. For me.” Okay. She was playing dirty and she knew it, but Helen was so happy, and she didn’t want to see Sam and Simon destroy it.

“Fuck! I hate it when you play that card. You know I can’t say no,” Sam answered, disgruntled. “But I’m keeping extra security on her to make sure this guy isn’t a psycho.”

Yep. She knew he couldn’t say no if she asked him to do something for her. And she rarely used that tactic because she did know that Sam would do anything for her, and she didn’t want to prey on his vulnerability. But dammit…this was important. “Thank you. I’ll return the favor when you want something,” she told him solemnly, still in awe that this strong, powerful man would bend to make her happy.

“Sunshine…I do want something,” he told her with a naughty grin, his hands dropping to the counter, imprisoning her against the cupboard.

Maddie sighed and placed her hands on his chest, wanting nothing more than to let Sam have his way with her, any way he wanted it. But…

“Wait. I have something I need to tell you,” she answered urgently, knowing she had to get Sam’s attention before he kissed her. Once that happened…she’d be a goner.

He straightened up and put his hands on her shoulders, rubbing up and down her arms as he asked, “What is it, Sunshine?”

Her heart fluttered as she heard the genuine concern in his tone. Sam had transformed from horny lover to concerned husband faster than she could blink. Her man was made up of so many layers, every one of them appealing as hell. No wonder she couldn’t resist him, loved him with every cell in her body.

She had no hesitation in telling Sam he was going to be a daddy. She’d planned a nice dinner and wine, imagined telling him after they had relaxed. But the joy she’d been feeling all day bubbled up inside her, clamoring to be shared with the man she loved. “I’m pregnant,” she blurted out, far from the delicate way she had planned on delivering the news.

Sam’s expression went from astonished…to ecstatic…and then to one of apprehension. “Why?”

Maddie smirked, unable to resist her husband’s stunned reaction. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she reminded him teasingly, “You took the job of getting me this way pretty seriously. I’m not sure why you’re surprised. Does Dr. Hudson need to give you a refresher on how a woman gets pregnant?”

Sam let out a whoop and grabbed her around the waist. Her feet left the ground as he twirled her in a circle before gently dropping her back to her feet again. “I can’t believe it. Are you sure?” he asked, his voice vibrating with emotion.

Laughing softly, she answered, “Sam…I’m a doctor. When I missed my period, I tried not to get my hopes up. I’m irregular. But I took three different tests, and they were all positive. So yeah, I’m pretty sure.”

Sam speared a hand into her hair and lowered his head, resting his forehead against hers, “Are you happy?” he asked her nervously.

“You know I am. Sometimes I feel like this is all a dream. You. Us. A baby. I’m so happy it’s almost frightening,” she answered honestly.

“It’s no dream, sweetheart,” Sam said, stroking her hair lovingly, his hand trembling slightly. “Oh, Christ!”

“What?” Maddie jerked her head back to look at his face. He was obviously upset. “What is it, Sam? You’re scaring me.”

“We had sex, Maddie. Rough, crazy sex. Over and over in the last few days. The baby—”

“It won’t hurt the baby, Sam. Sex is perfectly fine,” she answered with a soft laugh.

“I shouldn’t have been so rough. God, if I’d known you were pregnant—”

“If you would have known, we still would have had the same outofthisworld sex. Sam…our baby will be fine. Trust me,” she replied, unable to wait a moment longer to kiss him. Jerking his lips to hers, she buried her hands in his hair and savored the taste of him, nipping softly at his bottom lip before soothing it with her tongue.

Sam’s control lasted about a second before he grasped the back of her head and slid his other arm completely around her waist, bringing her tightly against him as he ravished her mouth with his tongue, hot and hungry, just the way she liked it.

After he’d kissed her senseless, he groaned, pulling his mouth from hers and rested his forehead against her shoulder. “I hope it’s a girl. She’ll be a beautiful miracle just like her mother.”

“I honestly don’t care. I just want your baby. Our baby.” Maddie sighed, her whole body tingling from his kiss and begging for Sam’s possession. She pressed her body closer, rubbing against him sensually.

“Maddie, stop. You know I can’t control myself when you do that,” Sam told her sternly, but his voice was filled with longing.

“I’m hoping you won’t,” she told him sensually, sliding a hand down his chest and tracing the hard lines of his cock with her fingertips.

“If you don’t quit, I’ll have you naked and on your back in ten seconds,” Sam warned her, but his voice was almost hopeful now.

Her fingers continued to torment him, persistent, her touch becoming firmer as she smiled up at him. She started counting out loud:

“One.”

“Are you sure it’s okay?” Sam asked, his desperate eyes meeting hers, his desire and concern appearing to be in conflict.

“Yes. Positive. I would never do anything to harm our child.”

“Fuck. That feels so good, Sunshine.”

“Two.”

“Three.”

Her shirt hit the floor.

“Four.”

Her bra hit the ground.

“Five.”

“Six.”

“Seven.”

The shorts she was wearing and her panties fell to her feet at the same time.

Sam picked her up with growl, “Fuck it. I trust you, Sunshine.”

They never made it to the bedroom and Maddie never made it to the count of ten. Sam had her on her back and moaning in record time, right there in the kitchen.

Dinner burned.

They happily ordered out a few hours later.
