Five reads for February
These five books are next on my to-read list. I had hoped to read them by the end of February, but life has thrown me another curveball, so we’ll see!
Uncle Billy’s Chicken Hut and Salvation Emporium by Jeffrey G. Roberts
West of the bustling metropolis of Phoenix, along Interstate Highway 10, is the magnificent and mystical desolation of the mountains of Southwestern Arizona. It is as alien as the planet Mars, and just as foreboding. Yet hidden away between the peaks & valleys and desert vistas, is a most incongruous edifice – part diner, part carnival atmosphere, with equal measure of whimsy, and just a smidge of nightmare. And it lay smack dab between the Eastern boundaries of imagination, and the Western shores of spooky. You can’t get to it by car or plane; and you won’t reach it by helicopter or even horseback. Nor is it on any map in existence. In fact – you won’t find it at all.
Unless you’re dead. For this is Uncle Billy’s Chicken Hut & Salvation Emporium. Welcome. You say your spirit can’t move on until you find that 1995 issue of Jugs Galore with Miss February – before your wife does? Come on in! Never got a chance to see the dream realized of eating oysters on the half-shell? You’ve come to the right place! Not quite sure you’re actually in the dead mode? Uncle Billy will steer you on the right path! You know you’re dead, but you’re not quite sure how it happened, or where to go? Uncle Billy will set you straight!
D: Darkest Beginnings by Chris Turnbull
(Prequel to Whitby’s Darkest Secret)
What makes a young boy turn to the darkness? What turns an honest man into a monster? In this prequel to Whitby’s Darkest Secret, journey back and learn about the life of the boy, who grew up to become known simply as ‘D’
D: Whitby’s Darkest Secret by Chris Turnbull
LESS than 3 years after the release of Bram Stokers novel Dracula, Whitby is tormented by a diehard fan who sees Dracula as his role model; and it isn’t long before women are being murdered, and the residents of Whitby are scared to leave their homes.
WHEN a young lady from London, who has travelled to Whitby with her new husband, is targeted, it is a race against time to catch this cloaked monster before he kills again.
D: Revenge Hits London by Chris Turnbull
The events in Whitby have left all those involved shaken. With a murderer still at large, and his target believing him to have been arrested, there is only a matter of time before their paths cross again. Humiliated by the woman he loves, D seeks revenge, and will stop at nothing until he sees Victoria pay for the torment she has brought upon him. With Detective Matthews out of the way, his plan surely can’t fail.
Clarissa’s Warning by Isobel Blackthorn
A lottery jackpot changes Claire Bennett’s life.
After she buys an ancient stone ruin on Fuerteventura – the island of her dreams – her mystic aunt Clarissa warns her of danger.
Claire pays no heed, but soon after she moves to the idyllic island, she is confronted by a mystery. As the sinister story of her home slowly uncovers, Claire enters a world of inexplicable events and ordeals.
Someone or something doesn’t want her there. But what is really behind the events?
I listen to audio books or downloads from bookshare. I used to read a lot more than I do now. I have to try to balance reading time with writing time again
