Excerpt #1:

Mike’s Anger

With a towel wrapped around his hips, Mike ignored her and walked straight into the bedroom. Well, it was his bedroom now.
Joanna hovered in the doorway. He dropped his towel and began to dress.
Mike was still as handsome as the day they met, and it was obvious he was still playing squash to keep fit. She still wasn’t sure what to say now that he was angry with her.
“I’m sorry I just left like that, Mike. I’m sorry I hurt you.”
“You didn’t hurt me,” he said fastening his jeans. “You’ve changed a lot in these last few years, Joanna. I never realised how much freer I would feel when I didn’t constantly have to look after you. To be honest, it’s been a relief.”
      “Ouch.”
He looked up and glared at her. “France must have suited you judging by the way you are glowing.”
“It did, it was really lovely. I learned to ride a horse and met some really nice people.”
“Good,” he said with obvious disinterest. “Why bother coming back at all, then?”
She shrugged. “It was time to come home and…. what?”
He slammed his arm into his shirt. “So you didn’t come back because you missed me then?”
“No. I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Of course you didn’t.” He fastened up the buttons.
      “Mike, please don’t be angry.”
“I’m not angry, I really don’t care any more.” He knelt down to tie his shoes, then walked past her and down the stairs. She followed.
When he put on his jacket, she said, “Where are you going?”
      “It’s none of your business!”
“Mike, please, we have a lot to talk about.”
He opened the front door. “I’ve nothing to say to you.” He closed it quietly, but it would have been better if he had slammed it.

Author Bio:

Karen J MossmanKaren J Mossman is a grandmother, but these days that is not as old as it sounds. A grandmother can be as little as thirty-two. But Karen laughs, “It’s a long time since I’ve since thirty two, but we are who we are, and I have two beautiful grandchildren, so being a grandmother is fine.”

“I’ve always written. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t write. I started out writing just for me because it gave me pleasure and it was a form of escapism. My parents fostered and having four siblings of my own, we sometimes had up to ten children in our house, so it was nice to go somewhere, even if it was just in my head!

“The story of Joanna first came to me back in the eighties, which is why the first book was set in that era. Although I must admit, the eighties pretty much passed me by as I raised my children.”

Karen originally wrote just one book, but it became clear soon after that the ending wasn’t right. Joanna’s heart belonged somewhere else. So as the decade turned to the nineties, the second book was written and for a long time, the two stayed as one book and then put away.

Eventually, when publishing became accessible to everyone, the book re-emerged as two.

Besides writing, Karen is an avid reader and book blogger. She also loves to cross stitch and is devoted to her Yorkshire Terrier, Tilly. Living on the small island of Anglesey, off the north Wales coast, she has plenty of nearby beaches to walk with the dog and draw inspiration for stories in her head, which may, or may not come to fruition one day.

Back in 1980 Karen married the boy next door and 38 years later, it’s a decision she has never regretted.

Excerpt #2:

Unspoken Rules

“For a long time, we lived by unspoken rules. Everything was fine until you broke them.”
“But it wasn’t fine, was it?” she told him. “I mean how open is our relationship supposed to be? We never discussed this.”
“We didn’t talk about a lot of things?” He pulled away, “What exactly did you come back for, because it wasn’t for me, was it?” He went through to the kitchen, and she followed.
“It was actually,” Now was the time to tell him about Niko. “Can you look me in the eye and tell me you didn’t want me to?”
“I tell you what I don’t want,” he pointed to her stomach.
