Calgary’s ‘5$ for a Good Claus’ Authors Deliver More Than Just Good Cheer For The Food Bank.
From Dec 1-18, two Calgary authors will deliver their best-selling stories to your door and donate 5$ from every book sold to the Calgary Food Bank. But they don’t stop there – they’ll even pick up your food donation and drop it off at the Food Bank.
Calgary, Canada, 11/25/2016 – For its third year, Adam Dreece and Neil Enock’s charity drive with a difference has been expanded to partner directly with the Calgary Food Bank, raised its target to $1000 and extended the campaign duration to 18 days! Also new this year, they’ve partnered with Calgary’s cornerstone bookstore, The Owl’s Nest to provide a physical anchor for the event.
“In April 2014, when I released my first book, I decided to make giving back part of who I was as an author. Knowing that every little bit helps, and liking the idea that my series, ‘The Yellow Hoods’, would have more than simply a character based on Santa, that Christmas season I started $5 for a Good Claus. It’s amazing to see how that simple idea is growing, year on year,” said Adam Dreece.
“When Adam mentioned this event last year, I jumped on board right away,” said Neil Enock. “I loved the idea of being able to dig deep and give back to the community, to meet people from all over the city, and to share our uplifting stories, it’s win-win-win. My book, ‘Doc Christmas and the Magic of Trains’, is partly inspired by the CP Holiday Train, so to be able to support the same charity that they do is an added bonus for me.”
The process is simple. Adam and Neil’s books can be ordered online at BooksForAGoodClaus.com, by calling 403-830-6331, or directly at Owl’s Nest Books. Then your signed books can be either picked up at Owl’s Nest Books in Britannia, or one of Adam and Neil will drop them off at your door. They’ll also pick up any food donations you’d like to make to the Calgary Food Bank. The event runs from December 1st through 18th.
The Owl’s Nest Bookstore is a wonderful, Calgary institution and has been an avid supporter of local authors since it’s beginnings over 40 years ago. Located in Britannia, the store has grown even larger with the addition of the kids-only “Owlets” store. Store Manager, Judith Duthie, had this to say, “This year, in addition to Owl’s Nest Books’ Christmas Book Angels program, we’re thrilled to be teamed up with Adam and Neil for $5 for a Good Claus. The energy and drive that these two local authors have is amazing, and we love having another way to give back to the community that is so vital to us.”
The author-duo were honored when the Calgary Food Bank agreed to officially come on board and help take the ‘5$ For a Good Claus’ event to the next level. “As we get into the busiest time of the year for the Calgary Food Bank, support from the community means everything. When individuals in the community, like Adam and Neil, come together it makes all the difference in ensuring healthy quality food is being provided to our clients. The generosity of Calgarians is amazing to see and we appreciate the support,” said Renee Ladouceur, resource development coordinator for the Calgary Food Bank.
A special launch event to kick everything off was held at Owl’s Nest Books on Saturday, December 3rd and was open to the public. Both Adam Dreece and Neil Enock were there signing books and talking with fans. A second event will be held on December 6th at Owl’s Nest with a hands-on, interactive display and to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Doc Christmas and the Magic of Trains.
